Reviews

"His (Lassus') early four-voice Missa Venatorum is unbelievably short - on paper it looks pathetic; but the Christ Church choir make it a work that rewards repeated listening. It is crammed full of telling detail. The recording sounds a little bright, but that is presumably on purpose: it helps to keep the music transparent and the texts clear ... the singing emphatically suggests that Christ Church may well be our best choir for sixteenth-century polyphony."

David Fallows, Gramophone

"The sound in the Palestrina Mass is above all things unaffected: clear trebles with a nice breathy edge, altos who blend well with them in the six-voice textures of the mass, tenors and basses who can sometimes sound a little characterless but always fit extremely well ... the details are very clear and excellently balanced ... this record makes one look forward eagerly to further issues from one of our major cathedral choir choirs under a conductor whose approach is so controlled and unostentatious."

David Fallows, Gramophone

"The tone of the Christ Church Choir is rich and full ... highly recommended."
