He's an enormously cultivated pianist, very grand in the bigger works; but sounding intimate or whimsical, which are no less important veins to tap, doesn't come so easily to a pianist of such lofty, impersonal polish. His Debussy album is so very 'complete' that it takes up 5 CD's- because he includes piano versions of a lot of music that doesn't figure in other people's collections."
