Bartok Dance Suite and other orchestral works
Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra Adam Fischer, conductor
As its title implies, Dance Suite is Bartók's tribute to the source-element he found in folk-dances like others recorded here which significantly shaped his musical personality. The Suite was composed in 1923 as his contribution to a special concert that year which commemorated the 50th anniversary of the merging of Buda and Pest, on opposite banks of the Danube, into one city. It was the same occasion for which Kodaly composed his choral Psalmus Hungaricus, and both composers gained an immediate success with their works, that of Bartók becoming a passport to more popular international acclaim.
