"Wilfried Strehle is lead violist of the Berlin Philharmonic and a founder-member of the Brandis Quartet. He plays a warm-sounding 1560 Gasparo da Salo which, in the context of a fairly intimate recording (no hint of Nimbus's one-time obligatory 'ambience'), sounds especially beautiful.
