During the summer of 1787, Mozart was hard at work on Don Giovanni, commissioned for Prague. While busy working on Act II, Mozart managed to compose a serenade which, despite its curiously enigmatic origins, has become one of the most enduringly popular works. Of the four Horn Concertos, three are known to have been composed for the for the Horn player Joseph Ignaz Leutgeb. The score is littered with messages to the hapless Leutgeb - some cheeky, some downright rude! The Clarinet Concerto was the last major work Mozart completed. Light and spirited though sections of his last works may be, one is always aware of an air of resignation about them, almost as if Mozart knew these would be the last works he would compose.
