Ca Trù, The Music of North Vietnam

The northern Vietnamese tradition of Ca Tru dates from the fifteenth century. In the first half of the twetieth century the music became very popular as entertainment in bars, but due to its association with drinking and flirtation it recieved a bad name, was discouraged by the communist government of Vietnam and was rarely performed.
