Summer Series 2004, Concert 16
Rebecca Evans, soprano An evening of operatic arias, songs and duets by: Vivaldi, Handel, Mozart, Schubert, Berlioz, Brahms, Rossini, Fauré, Richard Strauss, Offenbach, Rangström, Sibelius and Bernstein. Katarina and Rebecca sang their first duet programme at the Buxton Festival in 2003; an evening that was subsequently broadcast by the BBC. They are giving their only duet recital of 2004 here at Wyastone. It will be an evening of familiar operatic arias and songs: if you can recall the duet from Lakme (the one British Airways use for their advertising!) you will have a flavour of this evening. We think it will be a perfect way to end a warm Summer Concert series. Rebecca Evans was born in South Wales. She has established a major career in America, performing in Chicago and San Francisco, and at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Audiences in this country will have seen her performing title roles in productions for Scottish Opera, Welsh National, English National, and at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Rebecca also hosted her own television series "A Touch of Classics" with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, on BBC Wales. Katarina Karnéus was born in Stockholm. She will be well remembered as the 1995 winner of the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. Katarina enjoys an international career in opera and recital and has made many recordings; her most recent CD of Sibelius songs met with unanimous praise - "Karnéus’s voice is glorious, a warm, coppery mezzo with bright soprano tints; and she uses it with a rare candour and spontaneity." (BBC Music Magazine). Ticket Prices: £12.00 £16.50 £20.00 (Click here for hall layout diagram.) This performance will finish at approximately 9.30 pm |
