The Wyastone Workshops One of the aims of the Nimbus Foundation is to expand the musical horizons of younger musicians and to introduce them to performances of Classical Music at the highest level. This year we have created a series of free hands on workshops for younger musicians. There are six events across three days:
Each session will be open to young musicians from the surrounding schools catchment areas to include Monmouth, Abergavenny, Chepstow, Ross-on-Wye, Hereford, Coleford and Gloucester. Each session will be taken by a professional performer who will also be appearing during the 2004 Summer Series so that a real link can be created between the pupils and the performers. Each pupil that attends will also be offered a complimentary ticket to see their performer in action during the 2004 Summer Series *. Spaces at each workshop will be limited to ensure that every pupil receives a high level of personal instruction. Please remember to bring your instrument! Pupils wishing to attend one of the workshops should contact the box office to book a place. Each event is free of charge however we do require the following information:
* Free Ticket A complimentary ticket will be offered to each pupil for concert 14 on Friday July 23rd at 7.45 pm. Jeremy Menuhin and the English Symphony Orchestra will be performing Mozart Piano Concertos no. 12 in A major, no. 13 in C major, no. 14 in E flat major and the Divertimento in D major. Please contact the box office to confirm this allocation and to book any additional places. The Wyastone Concert Hall is a purpose built concert hall on the banks of the River Wye providing a remarkable acoustic for both performers and audience. Biographies for performers taking the 2004 Wyastone Workshops Janet Masters - violin Janet is Co-Leader of the English Symphony Orchestra and Leader of the chamber ensemble Kaleidoscope. Janet was an original member of the Fairfield Quartet (1st Violin) which won many prizes whilst all the members were at the Royal Academy of Music. She was a pupil of Frederick Grinke and received her Recital Diploma from the Royal Academy. As a teacher Janet has vast experience and has taught some of the top young players in the country. Peter Adams - 'cello Peter is Principal 'cello of the English Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Bochmann Quartet and the Rogieri Piano Trio. He was a pupil of Janos Starker at Indiana University. Peter is in demand as both a chamber musician and soloist with a particular interest in the viola da gamba. He regularly gives 'cello master classes and workshops. Judith Hall - flute Judith is Principal Flute in the English Symphony Orchestra. Judith was Principal Flute in the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden Orchestra for a number of years. Besides her freelance career in the UK she also tours abroad, and frequently returns home to Australia, to give solo recitals. David Campbell - clarinet David is one of the UK’s top clarinettists and an original member of Peter Maxwell Davies ‘Fires of London’. David has played as a soloist with all the UK Orchestras and is the Artistic Director of the Abergavenny Summer School. He is a highly respected teacher and broadcaster. Simon Lenton - trumpet Simon is Principal Trumpet of the Fine Arts Brass Ensemble and the English Symphony Orchestra. An internationally renowned trumpeter who divides his time between orchestras, brass ensembles, solo work, broadcasting and teaching. Mike Revel - horn Mike is a member of the English Symphony Orchestra and highly respected musician who has taught the horn in the Midlands for 20 years. Besides playing in the ESO and the Royal Shakespeare Company, Mike has been a part of the developing programme of music workshops throughout the Midlands. He was a student at the Royal Manchester College of Music and Manchester University studying with Ivor James and Syd Culston. Mike also composes and arranges for brass ensembles. |
