Bach The Complete 'French' Suites for Piano
Bernard Roberts has long been acknowledged as one of Britain’s finest pianists. A particularly profound interpreter of Beethoven, his recording of the complete Beethoven Piano Sonatas for Nimbus has been given the highest praise in Europe and America as well as in Britain. He made history by recording the first ‘direct-to-disc’ Beethoven cycle for Nimbus in the late 1970s and then went on to record the first CD cycle (available on NI 1774). His more recent recordings of Bach, The Well Tempered Clavier (NI 5608/9) and The Complete Partitas (NI 5673/4) have received wide critical acclaim.

Reviews:
"...his slow movements are sensitive and gentle, and you have only to try the famous Gavotte in the 5th Suite to revel in his spirited elegance. If you have already discovered the natural grace and refinement which Roberts brings to Bach on the piano, without any loss of underlying vitality, he is your man." The Penguin Guide
"Nimbus has always made much ado about its sound quality, touting the aural realism of its recordings. Nimbus has a great deal to crow about here, including abundant sonic “room” around these recordings, allowing the sound issuing from Roberts’s piano to flower into an exquisite bouquet. As a result, the entire presentation is bathed in an exquisite glow that further commends these 2004 sessions recorded at Wyastone Estate in the English countryside." Michael Carter, Fanfare
