Urban Fairy Tales is a set of eight short miniatures inspired by various fairy tale characters. Though this is really a fun, silly piece, fairy tales often reveal dark truths about human nature, asking us to question our deepest fears and passions. Even in a world dominated by consumerism, drug use and celebrity, the collections of tales from the Brothers Grimm, Charles Perrault and Hans Christian Andersen continue to resonate with people young and old. So when I was commissioned to write this piece I wondered, ‘what would Cinderella do if she was living in urban London in the 21st Century…?’ Gavin Higgins
