J.S. Bach The Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin - transcribed for guitar by Eliot Fisk

Guitarist Eliot Fisk is known worldwide as a charismatic performer famed for his adventurous and virtuosic repertoire. He is also celebrated for his willingness to take art music into unusual venues (including schools, senior centres, logging camps and prisons). After 45 years before the public he remains as his mentor Andres Segovia once wrote, “at the top line of our artistic world.” I am delighted that Nimbus Records is re-releasing my recording of the Bach 6 Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin. Indeed there is no end to these works. They are like the Himalayan Mountain chain: they were here before us; they will be here long after we are gone and forgotten. Clearly ideas about such monumental works must change over a lifetime. Undoubtedly I would today do many things differently than they are here recorded. Yet I still embrace what is presented here and hope my listeners will do likewise. Eliot Fisk, March 2015

"The multi-layered allure of Bach's music for unaccompanied violin has long invited performance on other instruments. Here Eliot Fisk makes a strong case for the modern guitar." **** BBC Music Mag, July 2015

"Eliot Fisk is among the most important guitarists of my generation...There are some absolutely lovely performances here, free of affectation and careless playing. The third sonata and partita are as fine as any I’ve heard." American Record Guide
