Marcella Sembrich 1906-1912
This disc documenting the outstanding voice of Polish soprano Marcella Sembrich is a fitting tribute to her distinguished contribution to the operatic stage and concert platform. During her first season at the Metropolitan Opera, Sembrich sang in nine different operas and also performed in a number of concerts. In one concert she astounded her audience by performing a de Bériot Concerto on the violin and Chopin on the piano as well as singing! This concert confirmed her reputation as a consummate musical artist.

Review | "All in all, this is a welcome introduction to one of the major figures of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Kudos to such companies as Nimbus Records for making these singers and their work available to contemporary audiences." Steven A. Peterson |
