Mathias Santa Fe Suite
This recital disc gathers together some of the finest music written this century for the harp. The Welsh have a traditional affinity with the instrument - the documented national history of the harp stretches back easily to the reign of the Welsh king Hywel Dda (Hywel the Good) in the tenth century when the harper was accorded a position of great respect in society according to Hywel’s laws. It therefore seems appropriate that a disc by one of today’s leading Welsh harpists - Elinor Bennett - should be framed by the music of William Mathias, a Welsh composer particularly associated with the instrument.
