Orchestral Favourites Volume 2
Five of the six works for strings recorded here owe their original inspiration to widely different sources – the cinema, the British band tradition, Italy’s rich inheritance of so-called ancient music, a Tchaikovsky piece for choir, and a Tchaikovsky string quartet. The other, Dag Wirén’s Serenade, brought the composer’s name to millions who probably had never heard of it when the last movement became the signature tune of a popular television programme.
