Reflections - Music for Viola

Since studying at Cambridge University and the Royal Academy of Music with John White, Martin Outram has enjoyed a wide ranging career as quartet player, soloist and teacher. As a member of the internationally renowned Maggini Quartet he has played throughout Europe, North America and the Far East. With the Quartet he has recorded more than thirty discs and has won major prizes including the Gramophone Award and the Diapason d'Or. In 2009 he won the Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Chamber Music as a member of the Britten Sinfonia Soloists Ensemble. Martin appears frequently as a soloist and his repertoire embraces the major works for viola. His programmes often include rarely heard pieces, particularly by British composers and several works have been written for him, including concertos by Adam Gorb and David Gow. Martin Outram gives duo recitals with Julian Rolton and together they have performed widely throughout the UK.

Reflections - Music for Viola

"Excellently recorded and well annotated this is another fine contribution to British viola music on disc. There have been many in the last decade or so, but Outram has been responsible for his fair share."  Jonathan Woolf,

"This is an interesting disc of music by master and pupil for an instrument that both of them played...The sound is well balanced, and the notes are by Outram himself. This is a useful release for anyone wanting these particular works collected on a single disc." Nigel Simeone, International Record Review, May 2014

"Given a superb recording in the lovely Wyastone Concert Hall, this faultlessly delivered programme of tremendous music is by any standards a disc to treasure." Dominy Clements,
