The Artis Quartett was founded in 1980 following their graduation from Vienna’s Musikhochschule. To date they have recorded more than twenty discs which have won awards such as the Deutsche Phono-Akademie and the Grand Prix International du Disque.
Webern's output for string quartet and string trio takes us from the late-Romantic style of his Viennese years of study, through and beyond the Expressionist sound-world of the quartet works written just before the First World War, and towards the sparseness and serenity in his later music.
