In the 1800s there were limited opportunities to experience the sound of music, except in the churches. It was therefore in homes and in bourgeois salons that you had the opportunity to perform and listen to music. Often it happened in the form of piano and vocals and sometimes operas and other major pieces of music for two or four hands. Most of the songs presented on this CD were meant to be driven precisely in these smaller context, with a more intimate expression than what we typically hear today.
